Breaks my heart

Parker came home from school yesterday and said it hadnt been a great day. After asking him what happened he tells us that the kids at school are teasing him. They called him TomGirl because he enjoys to read. Stupid kids and stupid insults but it had him very upset. So much that he walked out of class to get a drink of water so he could calm down and they wouldnt see him upset. Enough for him to get up and go to his room last night after he was done telling us so we wouldnt see him cry. Bryan took this one and headed up the stairs to talk with his son. I wanted to get in my car and hunt those kids down! I calmed myself though (didnt beat up any 4th graders last night). Afterwards Lilah and Collin got to go and spend the night at a friends house and we got to spend the evening with just Parker. I think that really was good for him. We even convinced him to crawl into our bed and sleep in the middle. My baby boy is growing up and I know that he will have tough days but I just want to always be there to lift up his head. Please say a little pray for him. He struggles with confidence as it is and I dont want him to ever give up on reading because of this. I know it is the one thing he really enjoys and loves.

  2. wow...I'm crying after reading this and he's not even my son!!! Terra I will definitely be praying for him! Kyle loves books just as much as Parker, it's AWESOME that he enjoys them! Kids can be so cruel sometimes. You have a lot of restraint, I would've wanted to hunt them down too...or at least gone to the teacher about it. That's NOT ok! You might want to conference with his teacher and make her aware of it. Not to call them out on it for Parker, but so that she can keep her eyes open to it in the future. If they go on and on, that's bullying and it shouldn't be tolerated AT ALL!!!

Love you Terra! Emily got Lilah's letter and was sooo excited! She plans to write back today.

  3. Thanks Amy. I may just go and do that. They have teased him on library days also because he is the only kid who wants to check out books and is excited about it.

  4. I have one that hates to read and one that loves to read and I can tell you school is much easier for the reader. Those boys are probably jealous because reading is probably difficult for them. People who bully don't feel good about themselves. I will pray for Parker and for those boys. Just keep encouraging Parker to read.

  5. kobe is a reading fool. when we ground him one of the first things we take away are his reading rights - sounds horrible, i know - but it works. he loves his books. kids are cruel and in this case just stupid.
we tell kobe that kids will find any reason to make fun of other kids and if the worst thing they have to poke fun at is reading??? it just makes them look stupid.
