DON’T GET CAUGHT UP WITH PHRASES SUCH AS “THE GOOD CANCER”
Most of us have heard some variation of that phrase. We all know there’s
no such thing as a good cancer, although the truth is that when
compared with other cancers, the survival statistics and treatment are,
for the most part, better than most.
Unfortunately, some people find that phrases such as “the good cancer”
diminish their experience to the point that they feel they don’t even
have cancer, or that they’re not entitled to participate in such
empowering experiences such as cancer walks. Or, some people feel
guilty for feeling bad, because, after all, they don’t even really have
cancer. Please don’t let this happen to you.
I found this on a blog I have been reading. It struck me. I have been very busy telling everyone that I have "the good cancer." With that I have almost convinced myself that I dont really even have cancer. But I do. Not that I should go into a state of depression now. Not that I dont believe any more that God can heal me. But I think it is why I have lots of conflicting emotions inside me. The closer my surgery gets the more I look in the mirror and tell myself this is really happening. You are really going to go through this. And the reality of it all hits me. I know its a journey I will not have to go through alone. I will come through it with a testimony to share. However, I need to remember that I do have cancer.
I saw this poem and thought of you:
ReplyDeleteWHAT CANCER CANNOT DO
It can't cripple love
It can't shatter hope
It can't corrode faith
It can't eat away peace
It can't destroy confidence
It can't kill friendship
It can't shut out memories
It can't silence courage
It can't invade the soul
It can reduce eternal life
It can't quench the Spirit

Terra, remember always that you are a fighter. Of all the people I know (and I know a lot!), you are one of the strongest. Stay positive and take it one step at a time. This will be quite a journey, but you have your friends, family, and God on your side. You've got this, babe!
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is such a thing as "Good Cancer" but your calling it "Good" is a good indication of your amazing attitude and attitude is everything especially when dealing with something as daunting as cancer. Gotta love the word 'Good.' Dawn often called cancer her 'gift' because it dramatically increased her awareness of how much she had to be thankful for then she'd quickly add, "I am grateful but now I just want it to go away!" We Hernandi' pray for that for you and your family.
